Easy Egg Roll In A Bowl (Keto | Low Carb | Paleo)

This keto, low carb, egg roll in a bowl recipe is super quick and easy to make and perfect for a weeknight meal!

What Is Egg Roll In A Bowl?

I’m sure you’ve heard people rave about “Egg Roll In A bowl” as it’s a very popular low carb dish within the keto community. It’s got all the wonderful, flavours of an egg roll, but without the hassle of making egg wrappers and rolling them and deep frying them.

It is a super quick and easy to make and very versatile.

Ingredients & Substitutions…

  • Ground Pork – I love how cheap and flavourful ground pork is. However, you can substitute any ground (minced) meat in this recipe, and it will taste good, including beef, chicken or turkey.
  • Tamari – can substitute for coconut aminos.
  • Sesame Oil – I love the flavour of this oil, but you can use olive oil instead.
  • Garlic & Ginger – I usually opt for fresh garlic and ginger in this recipe, but for convenience I sometimes just add the powdered ones.
  • Rice wine Vinegar – 0g nest carbs per serving.

Totally Optional…

Add some:

  • Green onion (diced)My husband loves this!
  • Additional toasted sesame seedsMy kids favourite topping or
  • Spice it up with some hot sauce or crushed red chili flakesMy favourite.

Serving & Storing…

This Egg Roll In A Bowl stores wonderfully in an air-tight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 3 days, It can be reheated in the microwave . To ensure even heating, I heat mine in 30-second intervals, stirring in between each interval, until it is completely warmed through.

  • 500g (1lb) ground pork (can substitute for ground beef, chicken or turkey)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp fresh garlic, minced (can substitute for garlic powder)
  • 2 tsp fresh ginger, minced (can substitute for ground ginger)
  • 420g (6 cups) green cabbage, shredded/sliced to desired thickness
  • 2 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • 3 tbsp tamari or coconut aminos
  • 60ml (¼ cup) chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, lightly toasted
  • salt and pepper, to taste


  • In a large skillet, heat the sesame oil over a medium heat.
  • Add the ground pork and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until it has browned and cooked through.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients.
  • Stir frequently, until the the cabbage has softened and the liquid has evaporated, usually 5-7 minutes.
  • Once the liquid has evaporated, continue to stir the mixture together, until the edges of the cabbage start to char slightly, about 1-2 minutes. Season to taste.
  • Serve & Enjoy!
